Literacy...isn't it great? We were talking about bears and why they don't live in the woods around our house.
It's been an exciting year academically. Gus can now sound out tons of words and is learning about the "magic" e and other more complicated sounds (th, ch, sh). And as you can see he is working hard on writing and can sound out the words he wants to write too. One day he wrote completely on his own in a little notebook that he'd be given "strting of gusis notbok". So cool.
Chris and I love to read and Gus loves books too. I am thrilled that language, reading, and writing are going to be part of his life because I know that books and words can bring so much that is good into your life. They give you a view far beyond your own life, let you travel from your home, develop empathy and knowledge, expose you to things you won't find in your own family. Books can also cheer you up when you are sad, comfort you when you are hurt, distract you when you have too much to think about, make you laugh. Books can teach (they taught me how to knit and continue to inspire me in all different creative ways). Books make sure you are never alone. And what parent doesn't want that for their child?
that is definitely so cool. way to go Gus!
