Gus, Abe and I went out for a bike ride (Gus) and run (me; pushing Abe in the stroller). This is something I've been looking forward to doing for a few years, and it was really fun. Unfortunately for me though I did not stay in the shape I need to be in to keep up with Gus!
He decided we would "race" so we'd pick some spot ahead on the trail and agree to meet there. Then he would take off and disappear into the distance. I would lumber along, "running" as best as I could. By the time we turned around to head home Gus was definitely the winner of all our races.
I expected that though. I didn't expect to round a corner half way to our meeting place to find Gus off his bike and stretching like he had all the time in the world. Or to be really trying to keep running, face as red as a beet, breathing like a rhino, thinking "just a little bit further, just a little bit further" and I see Gus off his bike making up a song at full volume. Darn kids.
Of course, some of the time he rides slowly so that we are together. I wish I had a video of it though (well, maybe not) because he talks non-stop and expects me to participate in the conversation.
Gus happily chattering away: "Look at that beautiful waterfall! Look! Do you see it? Mom. Mom!"
me, barely getting a grunt out: "Yeah."
and so on.
not TOO old, feet! Sadly, my foot has never recovered adequately from that 'loosening up' of all the tendons etc. that occured during pregnancy. I can go barefoot for short periods now, and am mostly comfortable walking, but running? ultimate? sorry. all part of the former life.
